Last year when I returned from France, I printed a blurb book of my photos. I learned a lot about layout and what I didn’t want to repeat this year. Volume #2 in The Unfinished Business of Adventuring, is stark compared to volume #1, but I think it captures my year better. Maybe it’s the photography itself; presentation though is incredibly important. This year I opted to not run a single bleed. I wanted lots of white space. I wanted the photos to pop, without commentary. Being me, I could leave the entire book without a few words, so 5 or 6 pages contain a thought narrative about growing and doing what you love, which is what much of this year was about for me. Unlike last year, I chose to spring for a hardback book and Blurb’s proline paper (uncoated). I’m very glad I did. Between the layout changes and changes in material this year’s book looks nigh on professional.

and what would something from this year be without a little recognition of and inspiration from Amanda Palmer
One thing you don’t quite see in the photos this size is the texture of the paper. It’s thick and full of life. It isn’t smooth and glossy. It’s matte and although it’s smooth, it has a wonderful feel to it. It reminds me of the paper used for matte fine art prints, which is a perfect choice for the feeling I wanted this book to have.
